About Leslie Beukelman
Leslie Beukelman began her performing career on the cement slab in front of her childhood home in Sandwich, Illinois. Or perhaps it was while her mom was 8 months pregnant playing the drums in DeKalb County’s own Opus V… Either way, music has been a part of her life since forever.
Going to school at Roosevelt University’s Chicago College of Performing Arts here in the city of Chicago, Leslie earned a jazz performance/jazz studies degree. Staying true to her desire to take the audience on a journey, she do not limit herself to one genre of song and enjoys exploring music with the incredible musicians she has met through the years. Leslie has been described as an “edgy and adventurous jazz and rock singer” (Neil Tesser, the Examiner) and an “exquisite vocalist… (who has) mastered genres as vast as soul, melodic jazz, scat, rock and atonal experimentation…”(Lucia Mauro, Chicago Tribune).
Leslie performs all over Chicago in a variety of bands, including the Chicago Skyliners Big Band, Indie Rock/Grunge bands, and her own four-piece rock band and three-piece ensemble. Leslie also plays trumpet and melodica. For more information on Leslie, visit her website lesliebeukelman.net.
